Hey there, fellow foodies! Are you looking for ways to jazz up your desserts with minimal effort? I’m thrilled to share one of my all-time favorite recipes with you: a super simple, super delicious Strawberry Compote. This sweet treat will seriously level up your dessert game.

Made with just 4 simple ingredients—strawberries, sugar, slurry and lemon juice—this homemade compote is as tasty as it is versatile. It’s the perfect complement to everything from pancakes to cheesecakes, and it’s unbelievably easy to make. Trust me, once you try it, you’ll wonder how you ever got by without it!

So, are you ready to dive in and learn how to make this fruity delicacy? Let’s get started

Here’s all you need to make the compote:

Ingredients:

Frozen or fresh strawberries
Lemon juice
Granulated sugar
Slurry ( mix cornstarch and room temp water)

How to Make Strawberry Compote

  1. Preparation: If you’re using fresh strawberries, start by rinsing, hulling, and halving them. If you’re using frozen strawberries, you can add them directly to the pan.
  2. Cooking: Combine your strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar completely dissolves.
  3. Simmer: Lower the heat and let the mixture simmer. The strawberries will begin to soften and release their juices. Allow this to simmer for about 30 minutes.
  4. Thicken: Mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Gradually pour the slurry into your compote, stirring constantly. The cornstarch will help thicken your compote. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes, or until the compote reaches your desired consistency.
  5. Cool and store: Once the compote has thickened to your liking, remove it from the heat and let it cool.

Serving Suggestions

This Strawberry Compote is incredibly versatile, and it can complement a range of dishes. Here are some suggestions:

Strawberry Compote

Crafted with fresh or frozen strawberries, a hint of lemon juice, a sprinkle of sugar, and a cornstarch slurry for the perfect consistency. This versatile compote is the ideal topping for a range of desserts
Servings 1 batch
Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 300g or (2 cups ) frozen or fresh strawberries  (fresh squeezed)
  • 7g (1/2 tbsp ) lemon juice
  • 36g (3 tbsp ) granulated sugar
  • Slurry mix 1 tsp cornstarch and 2 tsp of room temp water

Instructions

  • Begin by simmering the strawberries, lemon juice, and granulated sugar over medium heat for approximately 30 minutes. Be sure to stir occasionally to prevent the mixture from burning at the bottom. As the strawberries cook, they'll release their juices, which will gradually reduce over time.
Once you've turned off the heat, slowly add the slurry while continuously stirring the mixture. This will cause it to thicken up nicely. Allow the compote to cool to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight jar or container.
Keep the compote refrigerated until you're ready to use it. This strawberry compote will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Now you've created a delightful strawberry compote that can be used in a variety of desserts! It's excellent with cheesecake, panna cotta, and my personal favorite, Charlotte Cake.

Notes

Chef’s Tip: Keep the compote refrigerated until you’re ready to use it. This strawberry compote will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
